The Postgraduate Research Associate Programme is designed to equip candidates with postgraduate research experience through studying towards a PhD. Through collaborative research projects and dedicated mentorship from experienced SAMRC researchers, research associates gain advanced skills, practical experience and professional readiness for appointment to research positions. The programme also provides an opportunity to train researchers:

• in emerging/strategic research areas or fields where researchers from designated groups are underrepresented, and
• in disciplines that are not included in postgraduate training programmes in tertiary institutions.

The purpose of the NIDA International Program INVEST Drug Use and Addiction Research Fellowship is to provide unique opportunities for non-U.S., early career scientists who intend to pursue a career in drug use and addiction research to obtain postdoctoral training in the United States with a NIDA-funded researcher. The postdoctoral fellowship offers two training tracks: INVEST. The fellowship offers training in any aspect of the biomedical or behavioral science of drug use and addiction, including conduct in basic biological and behavioral research, epidemiology, prevention, and treatment research. The Department of Epidemiology is seeking a Research Assistant (RA) to support the day-to-day operations of NIH funded projects. Primary responsibilities include managing a new study examining the links between reward processing, anxiety and depression symptoms, and treatment improvement.

• Recruit, enroll, and retain adult participants with internalizing disorders seeking treatment at the Center for Anxiety and Related Disorders.

The post holder manages the RLH Aftercare Programme under the leadership and supervision of the Programme Manager. The post holder manages a case load of substance dependent clients (i.e. high-risk individuals, such as offenders who may also have mental health challenges) and provides substance abuse treatment using best practice treatment modalities in an in-prison and aftercare treatment setting. The post holder will conduct assessments, provide individual and group counseling, facilitate didactic classes/seminars, develop, implement and update treatment plans, maintain clinical files, collect statistical data and report on client outcomes both written and verbal. They will liase with community stakeholders/outside agencies such as Court Services. The post holder will provide direct supervision to clients and perform additional duties as requested by the Programme Manager. The University of Michigan's Department of Psychiatry's Addiction Center, a leading-edge treatment, education and research center, is recruiting for a tenure track faculty position at the level of Assistant Professor. The Center is at the forefront of improving prevention, treatment, and sustained recovery for substance use disorders. To help address the complex issues surrounding addiction, U-M built one of the country's most comprehensive programs in addictions. The Addiction Center is housed in the Department of Psychiatry and aims to identify and provide effective state-of-the-art prevention interventions and treatments for those at risk of developing, or for those who are suffering from, substance use problems. To reduce risks for people across the lifespan and to learn how to avoid future wide-scale problems, we are creating new knowledge through research on the biological and behavioral underpinnings of addiction as well as the social and contextual factors that contribute to their development, progression, and recovery. At U-M, we are pursuing game-changing discoveries and approaches to addiction. The Laboratory of Behavioural Neuroendocrinology at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) is seeking a full-time, contract (12 months) Scientific Associate to support a research program focused on sex and gender differences in brain health, mental health, aging, and neurodegenerative disease. The Department of Psychiatry at the University of North Carolina (UNC) School of Medicine at Chapel Hill is seeking an open rank, fixed term faculty specializing in Addiction Medicine to join its multidisciplinary clinical services. This position is primarily clinical in nature and will focus on providing evidence-based assessment, treatment, and program development for adolescents and adults with substance use disorders (SUD), including individuals with co-occurring psychiatric conditions and trauma-related concerns. 

Primary responsibilities include outpatient clinical care within the UNC Substance Treatment and Recovery (STAR) Clinic, consisting of assessment, individual, and group psychotherapy delivered via in-person and telehealth modalities. The position also includes participation in the Addiction Medicine Consult Service through trainee supervision; direct inpatient clinical care may be incorporated over time based on programmatic needs and faculty role development. 

This position includes significant teaching, supervision, and program leadership responsibilities. The faculty member will provide clinical supervision to psychology interns and fellows (approximately two interns and one fellow annually) and may supervise trainees from other disciplines. The role includes serving as the Addiction Medicine Program Coordinator within the Clinical Psychology Internship Program, with responsibilities for rotation oversight, trainee evaluation, and development of didactic content. Additional teaching activities may include didactics for psychology trainees, Addiction Medicine fellows, psychiatry residents, and other interprofessional learners, as well as facilitation of process groups for fellows.

The Prevention Specialist supports gambling harm-prevention programming delivered through a variety of methods at The Gambling Clinic (TGC). TGC is the prevention and treatment-focused arm of the Tennessee Institute of Gambling Education and Research (TIGER) a grant-funded team located at the University of Memphis and East Tennessee State University and a national leading research institute for the assessment and treatment of gambling disorders. The Prevention Specialist supports gambling harm prevention programming for dissemination through a variety of delivery methods. The Specialist is responsible for providing comprehensive program services and technical assistance in a specialized area (gambling-prevention focused programming). The role will also be responsible for supporting the evaluation of the effectiveness of all programs developed and implemented for public education.

Job Description:

The SAMRC’s Health Systems Research Unit (HSRU) seeks to appoint a Senior Scientist on a One-year contract to support the ALIGN project, funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The role focuses on generating and translating high-quality health systems research to inform policy and strengthen health system decision-making locally and globally.

The post holder will further contribute to research capacity development, collaboration, and innovation, and will assist with and form an integral part of the SAMRC’s transformation agenda.

Responsibilities:

• Support the design and implementation of health policy analysis and/or health systems research studies, applying recognised health policy and systems research frameworks
• Conference and meeting presentations at local or international conferences or at external meetings
• Research translation, including manuscripts for journal publication, policy briefs, and reports, and present at scientific meetings and conferences
• Capacity development, including the supervision of Masters’ students, facilitating workshops, and mentoring
• Contributing to the scientific life of the Unit through journal clubs, research days and other relevant activities
