The Department of Psychiatry at the University of North Carolina (UNC) School of Medicine at Chapel Hill is seeking an open rank, fixed term faculty specializing in Addiction Medicine to join its multidisciplinary clinical services. This position is primarily clinical in nature and will focus on providing evidence-based assessment, treatment, and program development for adolescents and adults with substance use disorders (SUD), including individuals with co-occurring psychiatric conditions and trauma-related concerns. 

Primary responsibilities include outpatient clinical care within the UNC Substance Treatment and Recovery (STAR) Clinic, consisting of assessment, individual, and group psychotherapy delivered via in-person and telehealth modalities. The position also includes participation in the Addiction Medicine Consult Service through trainee supervision; direct inpatient clinical care may be incorporated over time based on programmatic needs and faculty role development. 

This position includes significant teaching, supervision, and program leadership responsibilities. The faculty member will provide clinical supervision to psychology interns and fellows (approximately two interns and one fellow annually) and may supervise trainees from other disciplines. The role includes serving as the Addiction Medicine Program Coordinator within the Clinical Psychology Internship Program, with responsibilities for rotation oversight, trainee evaluation, and development of didactic content. Additional teaching activities may include didactics for psychology trainees, Addiction Medicine fellows, psychiatry residents, and other interprofessional learners, as well as facilitation of process groups for fellows.

The Prevention Specialist supports gambling harm-prevention programming delivered through a variety of methods at The Gambling Clinic (TGC). TGC is the prevention and treatment-focused arm of the Tennessee Institute of Gambling Education and Research (TIGER) a grant-funded team located at the University of Memphis and East Tennessee State University and a national leading research institute for the assessment and treatment of gambling disorders. IMHPR is seeking a full-time Research Analyst (1 year) who will work collaboratively with a team of researchers on a suicide-related research program involving advanced statistical techniques. The major focus of this position will be the development of a cutting-edge, externally-funded, world-class research program. Specifically, the successful candidate will be expected to:

• Establish and maintain a successful research program in the area of substance use and addiction medicine, to generate evidence and optimize outcomes in people living with problematic substance use;
• Design and test strategies to scale implementation of evidence-based practices and research; and
• Synthesize research information and translate into recommendations for clinical and policy guidance to optimize outcomes in people with problematic substance use.

The successful candidate’s program of research will be grounded in implementation science, aimed at accelerating the translation of evidence into practice and improving outcomes through scalable and sustainable interventions. In the context of substance use, this includes improving the delivery, scale-up, and impact of prevention, treatment, harm reduction, and recovery services, alongside rigorous evaluation of effectiveness and implementation processes. Genuine alliance and collaboration with communities, health care professionals and people living with problematic substance use will facilitate a robust integrated knowledge translation framework that accelerates the implementation of evidence-based practices and research with far-reaching impacts during the ongoing overdose crisis. The addition of a research scientist with expertise in implementation science focused on substance use and addiction medicine will facilitate the growth of rapidly emerging research in this area with the ability to help transform substance use care in BC and beyond.

In partnership with the British Columbia Centre for Substance Use (BCCSU), the UBC Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences is seeking an individual with expertise in implementation science and evaluation focusing on substance use and addiction medicine, spanning clinical and related programmatic and policy interventions.  We now invite applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor in our health outcomes theme, specifically in Collaboration for Outcomes Research and Evaluation (CORE), where the research programs focus on many aspects of epidemiology and population health, health economics, and health policy. UBC CORE faculty members apply their methodological expertise across a range of conditions and therapeutic areas, collaborating both nationally and internationally with pharmaceutical and health outcomes researchers.  

The BCCSU is a provincially networked organization with a mandate to develop, help implement, and evaluate evidence-based approaches to substance use and dependence. The BCCSU’s vision is to transform substance use policies and care in the province by translating research into education and evidence-based care guidance. By supporting the collaborative development of evidence-based policies, guidelines and standards, the BCCSU seeks to improve the integration of best practices and care across the continuum of substance use, thereby serving all British Columbians. The BCCSU seeks to achieve these goals through integrated activities of its three core functions: research and evaluation, education and training, and clinical care guidance.

The major focus of this position will be the development of a cutting-edge, externally-funded, world-class research program. Specifically, the successful candidate will be expected to:

• Establish and maintain a successful research program in the area of substance use and addiction medicine, to generate evidence and optimize outcomes in people living with problematic substance use;
• Design and test strategies to scale implementation of evidence-based practices and research; and
• Synthesize research information and translate into recommendations for clinical and policy guidance to optimize outcomes in people with problematic substance use.

Other responsibilities will include teaching topic-appropriate areas in health outcomes and other related topics to students in the BPSc, PharmD, and MSc/PhD programs, as well as new programs under development.

There remains a massive gap in data on the implementation and application of evidence-based practices and evaluation of impactful health outcomes in substance use and addiction. The successful candidate’s program of research will be grounded in implementation science, aimed at accelerating the translation of evidence into practice and improving outcomes through scalable and sustainable interventions. In the context of substance use, this includes improving the delivery, scale-up, and impact of prevention, treatment, harm reduction, and recovery services, alongside rigorous evaluation of effectiveness and implementation processes. Genuine alliance and collaboration with communities, health care professionals and people living with problematic substance use will facilitate a robust integrated knowledge translation framework that accelerates the implementation of evidence-based practices and research with far-reaching impacts during the ongoing overdose crisis. The addition of a research scientist with expertise in implementation science focused on substance use and addiction medicine will facilitate the growth of rapidly emerging research in this area with the ability to help transform substance use care in BC and beyond.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess:

• PhD in population and public health or other relevant health fields or equivalent doctoral qualification
• Experience in implementation science and health service evaluation
• Specific expertise in the area of substance use and addiction that will complement and broaden the current strengths in the Collaboration for Outcomes Research and Evaluation
• Demonstrated record of success as an emerging leader in an academic setting, specifically in substance use and addiction-focused research, with a superlative record of novel and innovative scientific research and productivity
• Genuine commitment to tackling the challenges of bridging the complexity of data into the applied setting, with a compelling vision to optimize outcomes in people living with problematic substance use
• Experience in review and synthesis methodologies, applying special methods to the analysis of systems data, and global health are an asset.
• Passion for working in a deeply interdisciplinary fashion and building relationships and collaborations with health system partners, affected communities and other organizations
• Potential for excellence in teaching with a strong commitment to professional, graduate, and post-doctoral education

The Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences is located in a state-of-the-art facility on UBC's Vancouver campus underpinned by world-class infrastructure, equipment, and the UBC Pharmacists Clinic. The successful candidate can leverage UBC’s existing collaborative ties with health system partners, including the Provincial Health Services Authority, and will have opportunities for collaboration with researchers in the Faculty, the BC Centre for Substance Use, and other health science Faculties, clinical centres, and external partners.

The expected salary range for this position is $145,000 - $165,000 CAD per annum. Salary is competitive, negotiable, and commensurate with experience and is subject to final budgetary approval. The Center for Biomarker Research and Precision Medicine (BPM, https://bpm.pharmacy.vcu.edu/) at Virginia Commonwealth University is seeking a postdoctoral research fellow to join our team. Our research program aims to alleviate the substantial personal, familial, and societal burden of mental illness and substance use disorders by leveraging state-of-the-art molecular technologies to advance disease understanding and develop novel therapeutics.

We conducted large-scale single-nucleus transcriptomic and methylation studies in human samples to investigate autism and alcohol use disorder. The successful candidate will perform statistical and bioinformatic analyses of these data, contribute to the development and optimization of analytical pipelines, and publish findings in leading scientific journals. This multidisciplinary and collaborative project involves both local and external partners. The position is initially for two years and offers excellent opportunities for publication and career development.

The Department of Mental Health & Social Work is home to a broad range of researchers whose interests are primarily in applied areas of practice and policy. Reflecting this we have active research interests in relation to the care and treatment of both adolescents and adults with mental health problems, users of social care services and people who misuse drugs and alcohol. (The Department hosts the Drug & Alcohol Research Centre [DARC]).

Our work focuses on the experience of service users receiving interventions, evaluating the effectiveness of interventions and the implementation of evidence-based interventions in routine practice. Our research is characterised by inter-professional working with many colleagues working collaboratively on common areas of practice, research methodology or policy concern. 

There are also strong links and synergies between the research conducted by our staff and their everyday teaching interests and practices. The department also has a strong focus on service user involvement and co-production both in relation to healthcare, research and education. This underpins our working practice and feeds significantly into our pedagogic research. Research Assistant (The DISCOVER Implementation Study) The post holder will report to Dr Tim Weaver and work full-time on an NIHR funded research study. (The DISCOVER Implementation Study – The DI Study. 

DISCOVER is a schools-based mental health intervention for 16–18 year-olds. In a recent trial DISCOVER was shown to be effective in reducing symptoms of depression when compared with usual care at 6 months follow-up. It was also shown to be cost-effective. Building on this evidence, the DI study aims to identify the factors that support the effective implementation of DISCOVER in routine practice by Mental Health Support Teams (MHSTs) which provide mental health services for younger people in schools and colleges across England – and the schools within which DISCOVER is delivered. Guided by the Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research (CFIR) this multi-site, mixed-methods research programme aims to identify key barriers and facilitators to the implementation of DISCOVER and produce guidance to support its nationwide implementation. 

The postholder will contribute to the project by collecting both survey and qualitative data (from interviews and/or focus groups) from MHST practitioners and school staff and analyse these data to provide a theoretically informed analysis of the process of implementation. This is a collaborative project that has a central project team led jointly by King’s College London and University College London. 

The successful applicant will work under the day-to-day direction of Dr Tim Weaver at Middlesex but would be expected to operate as a member of the central project team and participate in regular project management meetings. The role will also involve liaison with investigators and researchers working in five regional sites throughout England in order to maintain an overview of activities across the project. The successful applicant will have experience in qualitative and quantitative research approaches, but a strong track record of undertaking qualitative data analysis (ideally to publication) will be essential to the role. 

A familiarity with and /or understanding of the theoretical frameworks and research methods employed in implementation science will be essential. It would be expected that the post holders would contribute to the production of academic publications, presentations and writing reports.

We are recruiting for a highly motivated postdoctoral research assistant to join the Chronic Pain Research Group, based at Ninewells Hospital and Medical School. You will work on a new project investigating risk factors for poor outcomes in people with substance use disorder and chronic pain, with a focus on women experiencing multiple inequalities. Funded by the Janet Kilmurry Trust, this research aims to benefit women, children and those from deprived backgrounds.

The role combines health informatics, epidemiology and clinical research, requiring strong analytical skills and the ability to work collaboratively across data science and patient-facing teams.

For the data linkage arm of the project, you will use health informatics to identify sociodemographic and clinical factors contributing to disparities in fatal and non-fatal overdose among people with substance use disorder. This involves working with large, linked datasets accessed through the Scottish National Safe Haven, including hospital admissions, prescribing records, mortality data, and demographic indicators. Key tasks include data cleaning, harmonisation and advanced statistical modelling, in collaboration with Public Health Scotland's eDRIS team.

For the prospective clinical study, you will explore how adverse childhood experiences influence sensory phenotypes in individuals with chronic pain and/or substance use disorder. Building on the ACE-MAP study, you will be actively involved in the recruitment and assessment of women through clinical services, using validated questionnaires and quantitative sensory testing.

Throughout the project, you will collaborate with people with lived experience of chronic pain on study design, conduct and dissemination. There will be opportunities for skills development in advanced statistics (e.g., R) and clinical phenotyping. The successful applicant will lead data integration, present findings at scientific meetings, draft peer-reviewed publications and contribute to future grant applications.

This is a fixed-term post, dependent on external funding. In person working will be required for some of the study activities, but where appropriate, hybrid working will be supported.
